Gonzalo de Arjona most likely was born in Jérez de los Caballeros in the modern day province of Badajoz. He probably is the individual of the same name who went to Peru with expeditionary Francisco de Vargas in 1537. His parents probably were Ruy Sánchez Arjona and Catalina Álvarez de Randona. Gonzalo was present at the 1540 muster as an unassigned horseman.
