Juan Barbero

Brief Biography

Juan Barbero was born possibly in Sevilla at least by 1500, which would make him about forty years old when he went on the Expedition. This same Juan Barbero was married to Francisca Rodríguez. We are not sure whether his last name also indicated his profession, a barber. He served in Viceroy Mendoza's personal guard, giving him a special status. Juan was present at the 1540 muster as a well-armed footman.
