Luis de Figueredo

Brief Biography

Luis de Figueredo himself reported that he was a native of Ebora, Portugal and the son of Gonzalo de Figuerõa and Malgarida Cordosa. He stated that he had come to the Indies in about 1526 at the age of 11, serving in Cartagena and Santa Marta, Colombia. By 1539 he was in New Spain. He was about twenty-five years old when he went on the Expedition. He was present at the 1540 muster and listed as a horseman. After the return of the Expedition Luis was an encomendero in Culiacán and married. However, by 1547 his wife had apparently died.
