The indios amigos were not listed on the 1540 muster but many were present. They also rarely appear as individuals in the documentary record. Gaspar was a native of Mexico City (Federal District of Mexico) and along with Andrés and Antón, was encountered by the Espejo expedition of 1583 living at the Zuni Pueblo of Halona in western New Mexico. They were just some of the central Mexican Natives who remained behind when the Expedition returned to New Spain. By the time Oñate arrived to settle New Mexico in 1598 Gaspar had died, leaving two sons.
