The name Francisco Gutiérrez was very common in New Spain. As the documentary record shows there were several different individuals living in various places in New Spain and doing various occupations. The expeditionary Francisco Gutiérrez was born around 1517. He served in don Rodrigo Maldonado's company and later testified that he served as an aposentador. Prior to the Expedition he participated in the conquest of Honduras. By the 1550s he was in Puebla and some of the Puebla documents may refer to him.
